Here I am with a blog update about JAPAN VLOG #6. This post will be on part 1 and it will involve Doraemon and Pikachu in Roppongi. Two very cute characters from Japan!
Roppongi is very popular among foreigners and for its nightlife. The types of visitors varies a lot due to all of the luxury, leisure and residential space it has to offer. You can find anything from culture to art, like the Mori Art Museum and the Suntory Museum of Art. At night various bars, restaurants and nightclubs are open which are very welcoming to foreigners.
Roppongi Hills, 六本木ヒルズ
Roppingi Hills can be seen as a city within a city, introduced in 2003 in the center of Roppongi. It became pretty much a token of the Japanese IT business. Everywhere are buildings filled with IT or financial related companies. A building that gets the highest amount of visitors is the Mori Tower. It is one of the most tallest buildings in that area. In this tower you are able to dine and unwind, shop and check out the beautiful view from up the observation deck.
Tatsuya, Samuel and me met up in Roppongi Hills. This was the first time I have been in Roppongi. Curiosity always hit me when talking about Roppongi, because of all the things I’ve heard about it. Things like:“You will find a lot foreigners there..”, “There are so many douchebags there” etc, etc.. Other things I’ve heard were that it is a great place for shopping, because of all the great deals. But that day I didn’t come for neither shopping or nightlife. We came especially to see Doraemon and Pikachu!
Who is Doraemon?
Probably you might know Pikachu, but are you familiar with Doraemon? Doraemon is a manga created by Fujiko F. Fujio. Doraemon itself is a robot from the future that traveled back to the past. If you are not into manga, the anime is also available. Not only is it super popular among kids, adults love it too! The story lines contain a lot of humor, but unlike other anime or cartoons it also contains morale lessons about topics such as courage, family, respect and integrity.
Roppongi Hills happened to be filled with Doraemon statues! I was very lucky to be in Japan. It was one of the most cutest things I have seen. Just think about it.. Everywhere, Doraemon.. to my right.. to my left.. up, down, under! All with different facial expressions and different outfits.
Pikachu Cafe, ピカチュウカフェ
Up in the Mori Tower was a temporary Pikachu Cafe. I remembered that I found out about it looking through my Facebook wall. This couldn’t get any better, haha! When I was a little girl I loved Pokémon. Games, anime, cards, figures, posters, stickers – you name it! Now I had the chance to eat Pikachu! Yes, his head chopped up on a plate…. Now that sounds pretty terrifying actually, hahahaha *awkward laugh*.
